My origional trans would grind 100% of the time no matter what you did, shifting slow, double clutching, etc,, and would get worse when everything was warmed up. To buy me a little time I purchased a used trans that was ok (still grinds a little from 3rd-4th) but was at least driveable. I decided it wouldn't hurt to take the origional one apart to see if I could see what the problem was. Turned out that all the insert springs for 3rd-4th were missing. Ordered and installed some replacement parts. You do not have to take apart the gearset to replace the springs. I will know in a couple of weeks if it make an improvement. The pic below is where the insert springs should have been.
